300 Friends

A play by Sarah Elaine Stewart.

When I grow up I want to be a princess who falls in love

And sleeps on a bed of feathers and butterflies

And be a ballerina and sing songs

And be a mermaid with long blond hair

And leave a trail of breadcrumbs so I never get lost

And be like everyone else

You. Will. Be. Happy.

Tales from a generation on the brink of responsibility.

3rd, 4th, 5th March 2010 at the Albany Theatre

It seems like a very very long time ago that Jeff and myself went for a coffee in Soho to discuss the play..out of that wonderful evening came the first sketches and ideas for the set. Not only did the set need to look beautiful, we wanted it to work in conjunction with the lighting, it needed to represent many different areas in a house, but very much a dreamlike and allagorical house, recognisable and yet removed from normality. Our mission was to build a set which the actors could also play and interact with, that it worked as another character and helped to tell the story of ‘300 Friends.’ This is what we finished with in the intimate studio of The Albany.
